Breaking with standard journalism protocol, Glenn Thrush admits to being a hack by having the subjects of his posts, Hillary Clinton's staffer, approve his posts before publication. Politico defends Thrush but their defense is deemed lame and not accepted.
Walter Durante whitewashed Stalin's pogrom, or famine-genocide against Ukraine population, known as Holodomor (manmade famine). Durante was awarded the Pulitzer Prize still displayed at NYT.
A vast difference in scale but the same journalistic impulse.
